Description:

Three souls - Nefesh, Ruach and Neshamah

Feb, 2018

Neshamah is the eldest sibling. He cares little for the things of this world, and eats only so that his life may continue for that is His Will. Neshamah is pure spirit, existing in the angelic realm, and is the still, silent voice that guides us. It retains the essential Wisdom and Wonder of that nourishes our manifest existence. It is our connection, almost our portal, to the timeless, spaceless world of the Creator, Elohim. It is the place of enlightenment, of harmony and balance. His desire is to return home, to the palace where he was born, and live together in His True Kingdom.

Ruach is the middle brother. He is full of desire for the physical things and experiences, and through these desires, he experiences love and loss through the appreciation and the nourishing of his surroundings, as well as through destruction thereof. He is like the wind, blowing between here and there. Always wanting to be here, but continuously being blown around, from past to future, above and below.

Nefesh is the youngest sibling. He is concerned essentially with the physical, and the quantification of everything, which is his way of ascertaining its reality and its usefulness. It is called the vivifying spirit. He is of and in this world, and cares little for ought else. His appreciation of it though is vast, and ranges from the beautiful to the horrific, and everything in-between. He is full of desire for the things of the physical, manifest world and through these desires, he expresses his love and is bound by his attachment to these things.

The deepest existential moments one can share with another, is the moment of birth and the moment of death, matched by the intimate moment of love, from which life itself emerges.

The Rabbis say that only one who has peace, shalom, in his heart can be truly fulfilled. They do not speak necessarily of peace in your life though. For only if life is challenging, can you be inspired to aspire.

Wanting to rest, to be still, to be at home, driven by the need to be at peace in an ever-changing world. His environment is never truly still, and always challenging — forcing him to build stronger and stronger structures to keep the winds of change at bay.

Whenever there is an unpredictability in a certain dimension, that is indicative of a “higher” dimensional element in play.

This unpredictability is what will cause those who aspire, to ascend in understanding, as it is indicative of a broader, some say deeper, understanding of the cause behind this unpredictability. That is why these stories, many of which cause us distress (i.e., the akeidah or binding of Isaac) or that touch us in some way, even if disturbing, are stories that challenge us to aspire, to overcome the horror and bestiality of our human existence, to believe in another, better place in which this human experience can unfold.

It acts as a reminder that as little as we know of the actual reality of this dimension, it is certain that there are lower dimensions and at least one higher that are part and parcel of this one. The upper having an extra infinity to tangle with and explore and the lower forming the foundational elements—another whole world to explore—that make up the building blocks of this dimension.

That is what inspires those who aspire to ascend in understanding and wisdom, as it is indicative of a broader, some say deeper, understanding of the causes behind the non-rational in our existence (and beyond).
